From Chittagong Hill Tract(CHT) to North East Frontier Agency (NEFA) Struggles of Chakmas’ Post Migration in India

Abstract
This paper attempts to bring out the struggles of the Chakmas of Arunachal Pradesh on gaining acceptance as citizens and statehood. It narrates the decades of struggles on how they were marginalized both politically and socially. It also brings out their every day struggle experiences in their day to day situation. Chakma community, who were earlier proud of their land and belongingness and is now forced to face the results of neo-liberal agenda. They are whereby led to live a stateless life and are often level as refugees. The paper would further bring out the struggles of the Chakma peoples while adapting to live life without state and they remain to continue to struggles to gain the right of citizenships. The issue on this regard often do not get discuss in the mainstream discourses. In spite of the cases that have been heard earlier on Chakmas citizenships questions in Supreme Court and the action is yet to be realise. The author, perceived this as lack of implementation of the decision of the Supreme Court as heard in 1996 (National Human Rights Commission and State of Arunachal Pradesh & anr on 9 January 1996). It nutshell, the study would bring out the struggle perspective of the Chakmas as a community.
